Many items go missing in OMAC

The following summary includes all major incidents reported to the Department of Public Safety between Nov. 14 and Nov. 20. It does not include general service and alarm calls. The Providence Police Department also responds to incidents occurring off campus. DPS does not divulge information on open cases that are currently under investigation by the department, the PPD or the Office of Student Life. DPS maintains a daily log of all shift activity and general service calls which can be viewed during business hours at its headquarters, located at 75 Charlesfield St.

Friday, Nov. 14

1:28 a.m. An officer observed three males on the front steps of Alumnae Hall. One of the males appeared to be urinating. As the officer approached the subjects, he witnessed the male who appeared to be urinating punch a window on the door. The males laughed at this action and began to walk away from the building, at which point they were stopped. The subject stated that he was knocking on the window when it broke. There was no one in the foyer or hallway inside of the door and he only "knocked" once. He had several lacerations on his knuckles. The case has been turned over to Student Life.

Saturday, Nov. 15

6:26 p.m. Officers spoke with a staff member who stated that his belongings were stolen from the Olney-Margolies Athletic Center. He stated that at approximately 4:20 p.m. he had placed his pants, a jacket that contained a credit card, cell phone, Brown ID, money and keys on the floor while he went to play basketball. When he went to leave at 6 p.m., the items were gone.

Sunday, Nov. 16

5:53 p.m. A victim stated that he had put his keys and wallet inside his sweatshirt and placed them inside an unlocked locker in the men's room located on the first floor of the OMAC at approximately 4:50 p.m. He also stated that at this time there were two unknown male subjects inside the locker room as he placed the sweatshirt inside the locker. When he returned about an hour later he discovered that his keys and wallet were missing from the sweatshirt. He went to the parking lot to check on his vehicle, and it was missing. Providence Police were contacted and responded to take a report for the stolen vehicle.

Monday, Nov. 17

11:49 p.m. An officer was dispatched to Keeney Quadrangle in response to the theft of two laptops. A student stated that at approximately 5:45 p.m. he used the restroom across the hall from his room and when he returned a short time later his laptop and his roommate's laptop were missing from their respective desks. When asked if he secured the room he stated that he had not because he did not have a key. There are no suspects at this time.

Tuesday, Nov. 18

10:36 p.m. Officers were dispatched to Keeney for a report of property damage. Upon arriving they spoke to a student who stated that he was in his room and heard a loud crashing noise that came from his window. He stated that he looked out the window and saw a group of youths, male and female, in the courtyard below. He could not identify them. He observed that something had been thrown at his window, tearing the screen. When he touched it he said that it smelled like oranges. Officers looked out the window and observed a large orange on the ground. There were also apples smashed on the ground. Facilities Management was notified and would respond to repair the screen. As the officers exited the dorm they observed two exit signs that had been ripped down from the ceiling. Facilities was again notified.

Wednesday, Nov. 19

10:24 p.m. A complainant stated that at approximately 9:30 p.m. he put his belongings down next to the basketball court in the OMAC, and when he was finished playing at about 10 p.m. they were gone. A sweatshirt, wallet, Blackberry, cash, debit cards, license, keys, a flash drive and a Brown ID were taken. There are no suspects at this time.

10:50 p.m. A reporting party stated that he left his book bag and jacket inside a locker at the OMAC at approximately 9:05 p.m. He stated that he did not secure the locker with a lock. When he returned to the locker at 10:20 p.m., his jacket was on the ground. He found his book bag open and his phone and wallet missing.
