The study of cracked pots

Students dropped spare change into a clay jug marked "Carberry Day" at the entrance of the Rockefeller Library Friday. The tradition began Friday, May 13, 1955, when Josiah Carberry, professor of psychoceramics, gave a gift of $101.01 to the University to establish the Josiah S. Carberry Fund in memory of his "future late wife." A condition of the gift was that every Friday the 13th thereafter, loose change would be deposited in brown jugs and added to the fund.
