M. lax's Carey '10 leading team early

Earlier this week, men's lacrosse attackman Collins Carey '10 scored three goals and one assist to help the defending Ivy Champion Bears edge out Lehigh, 13-12. Carey has set the bar high for the rest of the season, already encroaching on his four-goal record of last season.

For his outstanding play, The Herald has named Collins Carey our Athlete of the Week.

Herald: When did you first start playing lacrosse and why?

Carey: I started playing in fifth grade. My parents didn't like baseball and hated going to watch my games, so they handed me a lacrosse stick and said, 'Here, try this out.' I've been playing ever since.

What is your favorite part of playing Brown lacrosse?

How close the team is.

Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?

Yeah, I take a nap in the locker room before every game. You know, just go to sleep for about 45 minutes.

Do you have a lacrosse idol?

Ryan Cassil ('09) and the Baby Rhino (Brennan Bailey '12).

How do you feel the team fared against Lehigh?

I thought getting the win was the most important thing. We definitely could have played better, but overall it was a good result.

What do you look forward to most this season, both individually and as a team?

Individually, I just hope to do the best I can to help the team. And as a team, we're hoping for another Ivy title, to make it to the tournament and ultimately to the Final Four.

The No. 14 Bears will face off against No. 13 Hofstra this Saturday at Brown's Meister-Kavan Field.
