Football halts two-game losing streak

The football team bounced back from two straight conference losses to grab a 35-28 comeback victory against the Big Green on Saturday afternoon.

Bruno (5-4, 4-2 Ivy League) seemed destined for a third consecutive loss after Dartmouth punt returner Shawn Abuhoff took a kick 76 yards to give the Big Green a 28-17 lead late in the third quarter, but Brown came storming back to win its fourth straight decision against its foes from Hanover, N.H.

The Bears' offense began to roll immediately after Dartmouth's big play. A 37-yard field goal from Alex Norocea '14 cut the lead to eight, 28-20, before the final whistle of the third quarter. The Bruno defense made Dartmouth go backward on the following drive, allowing the offense to start with incredible field position at the Dartmouth 29-yard line.

Quarterback Joe Springer '11 connected with receiver Alex Tounkara '11 on a 30-yard strike to make it 28-26 and then completed the two-point conversion with a pass to receiver Tellef Lundevall '13 to tie the score.

Brown regained the lead later in the fourth quarter with less than two minutes remaining in the game. Running back Mark Kachmer '13 capped off an eight-play, 59-yard drive with a plunge into the end zone from two yards out. Defensive back AJ Cruz '13 sealed the win for the Bears, intercepting a Connor Kempe pass on the first play of Dartmouth's ensuing drive.

Head Coach Phil Estes said he was pleased with the result.

"After two fairly devastating losses, it was a good win for us," he said. "We had started to lose confidence after the two losses and we were able to hang in there and win."
