With a new head coach and missing two of last year’s upperclassmen, men’s tennis prepares to open its season with the Brown Invitational starting Friday.

Midfielder Liza Green ’15 slaps a shot on frame. Green and the women’s field hockey team have started the season off on the right foot with a two-win opening weekend. The Bears followed a 3-0 rout of Bryant University with a tight 2-1 win over the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.

Grant Achilles has been hired by the University as the next head coach of the baseball team, Director of Athletics Jack Hayes announced last month.

Playing against Dartmouth, the baseball team won the two games in which its top two starters were on the mound Saturday, but the third and fourth starters had much less offensive support and took losses Sunday.

The baseball team split its four games for the second straight weekend, this time sweeping Dartmouth Saturday but losing twice to the Big Green Sunday.

Corner infielder Trista Chavez ’16 waits for the pitch. She had hits in three of the Bears’ four games against Dartmouth this weekend, including one in the win that would snap the Bears’ historic 28-game losing streak. In Ivy play this season, Chavez is hitting an impressive .326/.380/.457 in 16 games.
