Midfielder Abby Carchio ’20 celebrated with the Bears in a 2-1 overtime victory against Holy Cross Sept. 9. Carchio had a major impact on all three of Brown’s goals against Cornell Sunday, recording an assist to Rebecca Rosen ’22 in the first half and knocking in two penalty shots in the second.

Bruno outclasses Big Red in 3-1 comeback victory

On a windy and cold autumn afternoon, the women’s soccer team warmed up the home crowd’s spirits with a 3-1 victory against Cornell. The Bears fell behind early but battled back to tie the game before halftime and take a commanding lead in the second half.

Running back Allen Smith ’22 runs against the University of Rhode Island in a shutout loss last weekend. Bruno’s rushing attack has left much to be desired this season, as the team is only averaging 65.4 rushing yards per game and 2.4 yards per rushing attempt.

Bears stifled by Tigers, drop 10th straight in Ivy League

While the football team improved on last season’s 53-0 defeat against No. 21 Princeton, the Bears’ efforts were not nearly enough, as they fell 48-10 to the Tigers on the road Saturday. For the second week in a row, and for the third time this season, the Bears’ defense gave up more than 40 points.

Travis Bouscaren ’19 recorded six goals, three assists and three steals last week and was named Brown’s Student-Athlete of the Week.

Bouscaren ’19 helps water polo earn critical victories

The men’s water polo team earned three crucial victories last week, beating Harvard 11-9 and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 11-10 in a double-header before defeating Princeton 11-10.

The Rams outscored Bruno 24-0 in the second quarter, beginning a run from which the Bears never recovered. The team will travel to New Jersey to face Princeton this Saturday.

Brown and the University of Rhode Island have met on the gridiron 103 times since 1909, but the Ocean State rivalry has never been so one-sided.

Jakob Prall ’20 scores one of his three first-half touchdowns for the Bears. Led by quarterback Michael McGovern ’21, Bruno put up a season-high of 35 points in their first victory of the season.

The football team took the field against Georgetown University Sept. 29, just one day before the one-year anniversary of its last victory.

The Bear’s matchup against previously undefeated URI ended in victory.  URI had not conceded a goal in six games or lost a contest all season.

Chow ’20 nets double overtime game-winner

As of last weekend, the University of Rhode Island men’s soccer team had not given up a goal in six games or lost a contest all season. That is, until Brown midfielder Matthew Chow ’20 came along.

Tight end Anton Casey ’19 catches a touchdown pass under the lights against Harvard Friday. The touchdown trimmed the Crimson lead to just seven points in the fourth quarter, and Casey finished the game with four catches, 64 yards and a score.

Moral victories are not often desired in sports, but as the football team walked off of the field following a 31-17 loss to Harvard Friday night, the Bears could hold their heads high.

The football team has not won a game against another Ivy League team in 677 days, but Head Coach Phil Estes was optimistic that Bruno would break this losing streak in the coming season.

Football to open home slate against Crimson

Tonight, as the football team hosts Harvard under the lights for its home opener at Brown Stadium, the Bears strive to both look to the future and commemorate the past.

Last Thursday, the Bears hosted the University of Vermont in a matchup that ended in an overtime draw. Bruno will match up against UMass Lowell Tuesday before beginning Ivy League play on the road against Dartmouth Saturday.

Women’s soccer dominates Rams in 5-0 victory

The women’s soccer team has not lost to the University of Rhode Island since 2007, and it continued its winning streak Sunday afternoon in a 5-0 shutout victory over the in-state rival. The win was the Bears’ most lopsided victory against URI since 1994 and marked their second win in a week. 

Rebecca Rosen ’22 recorded a total of three goals when the women’s soccer team faced the College of the Holy Cross last weekend.
