Alex is one of two sports editors at The Herald. She is a junior from London, England and is concentrating in English Literature. She has previously worked as a senior staff writer, staff writer and contributing writer for The Herald covering men’s hockey, women’s hockey, baseball and women’s soccer. Outside of the Herald, Alex is on the figure skating team at Brown and loves to skate with her friends. She also enjoys gymnastics and ballet.

The men’s hockey team opened its season with a home-and-home series against Yale last weekend, besting the Bulldogs 4-1 in New Haven Friday.

Rookie Anea Ferrario ’21 duels for the puck at Meehan Auditorium Saturday. The Bears earned their first victory over Yale since 2014 on the road Friday, before returning home the following day to complete the series against the Bulldogs. Bruno visits Dartmouth and Harvard this weekend.

In its opening weekend, the men’s hockey team prevailed over Ivy rival Yale for the first time since 2014 with a 4-1 victory in New Haven Friday.

After finishing last in the Eastern College Athletic Conference in the 2016-2017 season, the men’s hockey team will start fresh with eight new players at a home-and-home series against Yale this weekend. The Bears will travel to New Haven to face the Bulldogs Friday before returning to Meehan Auditorium Saturday. Bruno will take the ice at 7 p.m. both nights.

Following a pivotal victory over Harvard last week, the women’s soccer team rose to fourth place in the Ivy League standings with a 1-0 win against Cornell.

Veteran goalkeeper Christine Etzel ’19 posted her third shutout of the season against Harvard Saturday. The 1-0 victory gives Bruno sole possession of fifth place in the Ivy League standings with three games remaining.

The women’s soccer team took a lead into the half against No. 11 Princeton last Saturday at Stevenson-Pincince Field.

Though the Bears brought an impressive five-game winning streak into their game with Columbia, Bruno was on the wrong side of a late overtime goal for only the second time this year, bringing the team’s OT record to 3-2.

Mahoney’s 8K time of 24 minutes, 28 seconds placed him eighth out in Friday’s Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown. Bruno finished fourth overall.
