The Bears’ win over Dartmouth featured a double-double from Sophia Miller ’21. Miller came just shy of another in the loss against Harvard.

Volleyball wins Ivy home opener against Dartmouth, falls to Harvard

The volleyball team had a hot-and-cold weekend at home as the Bears (9-4, 1-2 Ivy) bested Dartmouth (5-7, 1-2) 3-1 in their first conference game on home turf Friday before falling to Harvard (3-9, 1-2) 3-0 on Saturday.

The Bears took the lead only 34 seconds into the game after a 75-yard rush by running back Allen Smith ’22 followed by a 22-yard touchdown. Despite the early lead, Bruno failed to score again for the rest of the game.

On Friday night, Brown came charging out of the locker room and scored a touchdown 34 seconds into the game against Harvard. But Bruno ultimately suffered a familiar fate, falling to Harvard for the ninth consecutive time by a 42-7 margin.

Women’s soccer goalkeeper Kayla Thompson ’21 earned back-to-back shut-out victories last week in games against the University of Hartford Thursday and Providence College Sunday.

Bruno felt the heat against the Friars in a final tournament match, entering the fifth and final round tied with two sets apiece. The Bears proved resilient and clinched the deciding match at 15-11, prevailing with a 3-2 victory and earning them the Friar Classic title. Women’s volleyball will next take the court at Bryant University on September 17.

The women’s volleyball team beat out Coppin State University, Fairleigh Dickinson University and Providence College to claim an uncontested victory in the Friar Classic at Providence College over the weekend.

The Bears’ tenacious mentality and strategy contributed to their critical 13-10 win against Wagner College Saturday. Brown proceeded to win five out of its six games in the Bruno Classic over the weekend. The team will return to the pool in the Princeton Invitational this Saturday.
