 Andrew Weibrecht, who graduated from Dartmouth last spring, added a bronze medal to his resume Feb. 19. The 24-year-old placed third in Super-G alpine skiing, just behind silver medalist Bode Miller.

Bears mount two third-period comebacks

What a way to go out on Senior Night. With just 35 seconds remaining and the Bears trailing St. Lawrence by one goal, tri-captain Devin Timberlake ’10 came charging down the slot and got the puck. Firing it into the back of the net, he tied the game, 2-2, and sent the home crowd of 1,574 into hysterics.

Athlete of the Week: Leffelman ’11 scores career high

Heading into last weekend, Garrett Leffelman ’11 was averaging 4.9 points per game. But in the Bears’ Friday night game against Dartmouth, he scored the team’s first 14 points. The next night against Harvard, he had a career-high 16 points. For his performances — and not because it’s his birthday today — The Herald has named Leffelman Athlete of the Week.

Athlete of the week: Mullery ’10 passes 1,000-point mark

Matt Mullery ’10 became just the 23rd player in Brown history to score 1,000 career points, hitting the milestone in the men’s basketball team’s game against No. 22 Cornell last weekend. The Bears were ahead in the second half against the Big Red, but Cornell ultimately won, 74-60. Mullery led all scorers with 21 points.

Third alum in three years makes it to Super Bowl

For the third straight season, a former Brown football player suited up for the Super Bowl. Colin Cloherty ’09 made the Super Bowl roster as the fourth-string tight end for the Colts. Last season, Sean Morey ’99 played in the big game for the Cardinals as a wide-receiver and special teams player. And Zak DeOssie ’07 won a Super Bowl ring as a long-snapper with the Giants the year before. Both DeOssie and Morey also played for the 2009 NFC Pro Bowl team.

M. hockey ties Dartmouth after loss to Harvard

With the men’s hockey team trailing Dartmouth, 4-2, and less than seven minutes left in regulation, it looked like Brown was going to go 0-2 on the weekend. But the Bears scored three goals in the next five minutes before Dartmouth got another goal with just 28 seconds left, evening the score at 5-5. The game ended in a tie, making the Bears’ weekend record 0-1-1, after their 5-2 loss to Harvard on Friday.

Forward Jack Maclellan ’12 keeps cool

Jack Maclellan ’12 scored a goal in both of the men’s hockey games last weekend — the 4-3 win over Rensselaer and the 2-2 tie with No. 18 Union. For his goal-scoring and penalty-killing last weekend, Maclellan has been named The Herald’s Athlete of the Week.

After defeating Harvard, Cornell moved into the ESPN/USA Today top 25 to earn a ranking for the first time in 59 years, making the Big Red the first ranked Ivy team since Princeton in 1998.
