‘Midterm Revue’ mocks exam stress with four musicals

Midterm period is tough. Students spend hours in libraries and review sessions, cramming in last-minute facts. Sleep and fun slip from existence for weeks as students slave over papers and tests. Musical Forum’s Midterm Revue, a mash-up of various musical theater songs set to an original plot, offers a familiar snapshot of the student experience at this hectic time in the semester. Set in the basement of the beloved Sciences Library, the play showcases 10 students with a variety of interests who find their own ways to cope with papers, problem sets and lab reports.

Exhibit brings dreams to life

Stepping into the Sarah Doyle Gallery to see work created by painter Julie Gearan is comparable to watching one’s own dreams. The exhibit features familiar landscapes in paintings that are offset by mysterious subjects. Gearan’s palette is composed of soft, cool pastels and deep, nebulous blacks and grays. Subject matter varies from pensive dancers with dark eyes to beached whales, and many paintings have Providence landmarks lurking in the background.

Simmons to receive two honorary degrees

President Ruth Simmons will deliver the commencement addresses at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Rochester this year. She will also receive honorary degrees from the universities – the 32nd and 33rd honorary degrees she has received in her lifetime. Simmons will speak at Oklahoma and Rochester May 11 and May 20, respectively
