When the U.S. Naval Academy’s top-ranked women’s rugby team faltered three weeks ago, Brown took over the nation’s No. 1 ranking after beating Providence College. This weekend, the Bears proved they belong in the top spot after dismantling two opponents to win the Northeast Rugby Union Championships.

Kohli ’08, former Indian tennis star, toughs it out at Brown

Co-captain Saurabh Kohli ’08 has taught the men’s tennis team the true meaning of the word “toughness.” For Kohli, toughness was leaving his native India for the first time in his life to attend Brown. Toughness was contributing to consecutive Ivy League titles in 2005 and 2006.

After defeating Providence College, 36-15 on Sunday, the women’s rugby team has risen to No. 1 in the national rankings. The weekend victory improved Brown’s record to 7-1, and this marks the first time in history that the Bears have claimed the No. 1 slot.

Soccer’s Stone ’11 named Ivy League Rookie of the Week

Sylvia Stone ’11 of the women’s soccer team has redefined what it means to recover from an injury. After suffering a sprained ankle earlier this season, Stone shone in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Cornell. Her performance earned her the honor of Ivy League Rookie of the Week, a title which she shared with Harvard’s Katherine Sheeleigh.

For the past two years, the men’s tennis team has ruled the northeast region in doubles, and the Bears will fight to continue their reign this weekend at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships. The tournament is hosted by Princeton, and if the Bears take the crown again this year, it will be their fifth title in seven years.
