Amid rising costs for student groups and complaints about budget cuts, Drew Madden ’10, student activities chair for the Undergraduate Council of Students, proposed to petition the University Resources Committee for a $54 increase in the student activities fee that would bring the total fee to $200 per student.

Perennially criticized for infighting and obsessing over parliamentary procedure, the Undergraduate Council of Students looked to turn things around at last night’s meeting. At its general body meeting, the council passed an agenda of roughly 40 goals for the 2007-2008 academic year, many focused on internal operations, communicating student goals to administrators and faculty and, listed first, energy efficiency.

21 UCS hopefuls vie for 8 at-large positions

At its first general body meeting of the semester last night, the Undergraduate Council of Students elected eight at-large representatives, five executive board members and a representative to the Undergraduate Finance Board. During the four-and-a-half-hour meeting, the 21 candidates running for the open at-large representative positions each pled their case to the voting UCS members before elections were held.
