Team loses third coach in six weeks

Track and field coach Reuben Jones will leave Brown for a coaching position at Columbia, becoming the third track and field coach – including program director Michelle Eisenreich – to leave Bruno in the past six weeks.


Women’s team shines at Lehigh

The cross country teams ended competition at Lehigh University this weekend with mixed results – the women finished 8th in a field of 40 and the men 14th of 37. The Paul Short Invitational was the Bears’ first major meet of the season.


Bears finish first at Iona meet

The men’s cross country team competed at the Iona Meet of Champions in New York City’s Van Cortlandt Park this Saturday after the season opener two weekends ago at the Nassaney Invitational. The women, who only competed at Nassaney – a meet hosted by Bryant University – captured a fourth-place team finish, while the men were ineligible to score as a team as only four of five starting runners crossed the finish line. The men’s squad had a stronger performance at Iona, where they finished first among 14 teams. 


Cross country teams rebuild after loss of graduating seniors

As both cross country programs prepare to kick off their seasons at Saturday’s Bryant Invitational, athletes and coaches are optimistic for the season despite having lost several valuable seniors. The women enter their second season with Women’s Cross Country Head Coach Mitchell Baker at the helm and look to improve upon last year’s seventh place finish at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championship.

While most students were stumbling through Spring Weekend debauchery, the men and women of track and field were busy running, jumping and throwing at three different meets. Though none of the meets were scored, both teams performed well at the competitions.


Territorial Bears fend off invaders

The Bears protected their home turf Saturday as both the men’s and women’s track and field teams clawed their ways to first-place finishes at the annual Brown Invitational. The men earned 165 points, placing them atop the six-team field. The women, finishing with 173 points, narrowly beat the University of Rhode Island to finish first out of the eight teams competing.


Trio of Bears set school records

The track and field teams had a busy weekend as they split forces to compete at three different meets across the country. Traveling the farthest were nine distance runners who competed Friday evening at the Stanford Invite in Palo Alto, Calif. Dan Lowry ’12, Olivia Mickle ’13 and Heidi Caldwell ’14 set school records in their respective events as they competed against some of the top collegiate distance runners in the country.


Track and field teams open season at UConn

The track and field teams began their outdoor seasons Saturday as the men competed at the Spring Invite and the women at the All-Connecticut meet, both of which were hosted by the University of Connecticut. Though neither meet was scored, both teams turned in strong performances.


Caldwell ’14 and Spooney ’14 star at Heps

The men’s and women’s indoor track teams both finished in fifth place at the Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Championships this past weekend in Ithaca, N.Y. Heidi Caldwell ’14 and the men’s 4×400-meter relay team both turned in winning performances, while John Spooney’s ’14 second-place time in the 60-meter dash set a new school record.
