Kate is the managing editor of daily content at The Herald, where she organizes staff trainings, develops multimedia features, and oversees production of the daily newspaper. A junior at Brown, she is majoring in urban studies but will pursue a career in journalism. Kate hails from Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she enjoys sailing in holes cut out of the still-frozen lake in the spring. Outside the newsroom, Kate has been known to frequent dance parties and doughnut shops.

Under the compost initiative, more dining items are compostable and there are new compost bins. For the first two weeks of the initiative, student volunteers will monitor bins to help students sort their waste.

As a fellow for the nonprofit Mercy for Animals, Lauren Pierce ’15 promotes environmental, ethical and dietary reasons to support animal rights. She is currently campaigning for Brown to adopt a meat-free menu on Mondays.
