Christian LaFragola ’19 clinched a crucial 3-1 win in overtime against Brian Bonino of Columbia. The Bears’ decisive victories over the weekend coincided with the team’s Senior Day, when visiting alums showed up to support the team. Next week, the team will take on Harvard in Cambridge before returning home for their final match against Sacred Heart University.

The men’s wrestling team took out Columbia and Hofstra University Saturday in two critical victories on their Senior Day. The dual against Columbia came down to the wire, with the Bears needing a win from Tucker Ziegler ’19 (197 lbs) in the final bout.

Fundraising for the BrownTogether campaign has allowed for the renovation of athletic facilities and recruitment of sports coaches.

The BrownTogether campaign recently eclipsed $100 million raised for the University’s athletic department.

Guard Zach Hunsaker ’20 faces off against a Penn defender in a Friday night showdown at Pizzitola Sports Center. The Bears lost 92-82 against the Quakers, but bounced back to defeat Princeton the next day.

Bears beat Princeton, fall to Penn

The men’s basketball team dropped their Friday night matchup against Penn in a 92-82 shootout, but rebounded at home to defeat Princeton Saturday. The Bears were down by as much as 12 early in the first half against the Tigers, but an emphatic 39-15 run allowed Bruno to hold on for the crucial 78-70 victory.

The Bears’ win against Dartmouth was their first Ivy League victory of the season. The squad was previously defeated twice by the Yale Bulldogs, who beat them 70-67 and 79-71 in Providence and New Haven, respectively. The men’s basketball team will next host Penn and Princeton at the Pizzitola Sports Center in a double header.

Bears defeat Big Green, fall to Crimson

The men’s basketball team split their back-to-back this weekend against Dartmouth and Harvard, overcoming a seven-point deficit in the final four minutes to defeat the Big Green, but faltering in a blowout loss to the Crimson.

The wrestling team lost against Cornell Saturday. The Bears then fell  to  Binghamton at the annual “Rumble and Tumble” event in the Pizzitola Sports Center, which also featured a gymnastics competition.

The wrestling team was defeated by both Cornell and Binghamton University Saturday, losing 42-6 to the Big Red and 19-15 to the Bearcats. Bruno found tough sledding against a No. 10 Cornell team that had five of 10 wrestlers ranked in the top 20 nationally. 

First-year Alexa Dannis ’22  earned a time of 1:30.90 in the slalom race at Crotched Mountain to pull off the victory, improving on a fifth-place finish from the week before at Okemo Mountain.

The wrestling team stumbled in a 32-6 loss to Army last Thursday, but found their footing on Saturday as they picked up close wins over Franklin & Marshall College and Bucknell University.

Trey Keeley ’20 earned his first career victory over a ranked opponent, defeating 20th-ranked Cole Verner of the University of Wyoming in the 125 lb weight class.

Following tournaments at Binghamton University and the United States Naval Academy, the wrestling team headed west to Las Vegas this weekend to take on several of the nation’s best teams at the prestigious Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.

Zach Hunsaker ’20 handles the ball against the University of Massachusetts Lowell Friday in an 82-74 victory. Desmond Cambridge ’21, named Tournament MVP, led the Bears with 61 points over the three games.

Men’s basketball goes undefeated in Brown Bears Tip-Off Classic

The men’s basketball team had a perfect weekend at the Brown Bears Tip-Off Classic, knocking off the University of Massachusetts Lowell, Sacred Heart University and Army West Point to earn a 3-0 record for the tournament.

Justine Gaziano ’20 led the Bears with 27 points against Central Connecticut State University. Though the team struggled with a poor shooting performance, it came out on top with a 68-63 win.
