They discovered that as a product is explained, “explanation fiends” will pay more for it, while “explanation foes” become dissatisfied and are less likely to pay for it.

Social justice finds a new home in Diman

This fall, the Social Action Program House opened in Diman House with 45 members. The new program house, which was approved by the Office of Residential Life last semester after a vacancy left by the Interfaith House, aims to promote social justice.

The University has narrowed its list of candidates for the directorship of the Watson Institute for International Studies to three contenders – Jeffrey Kopstein, acting director of the Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Toronto, Allison Stanger, chair of the political science department at Middlebury College and Celeste Wallander, the deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia. A search committee submitted an unranked list of the three candidates to the provost after interviewing eight semifinalists, said Provost Mark Schlissel P’15.

Following review, COE concentration to be renamed

The Commerce, Organizations and Entrepreneurship concentration will be renamed Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations. Concentrators graduating in 2013 will be the first to earn degrees under the new name, said Maria Carkovic, administrative director of the program and lecturer in economics.

Meatless pledge gains momentum

Nearly 300 students pledged to participate in Meatless Mondays, a national initiative that asks students to avoid consuming meat one day per week. The commitment of the 287 current participants reduces the University’s carbon footprint by about 59 kg of CO2 per week, according to the site.
