University alums win four Pulitzer Prizes

Newsrooms erupted in applause across the country as the 2019 Pulitzer Prizes for journalism, letters, drama and music were announced Monday afternoon, and among the winners were Herald alums Rebecca Ballhaus ’13 and Peter Kovacs ’78 P’10, who received prizes for their contributions to journalism.

Silverman ’22 wins Oscar for documentary short

“Period. End of Sentence.,” executive co-produced by Charlotte Silverman ’22, won the award for Best Documentary Short Subject at the 91st Academy Awards last night. In addition to Silverman, multiple alums and a professor were nominated for Oscars.

BAI’s first Wintersession course allowed students to travel to Los Angeles, visit art studios and learn from Brown alum artists about their career paths. The course provided opportunities for students and alums to build connections and begin what participants hope will be a lasting relationship.

Twelve students studying the arts moved beyond the classroom and into the studios, galleries and highways of Los Angeles during the two-week Brown Arts Initiative Wintersession course, “From Beginning to End: Process and Creation.”
