On Monday night, I test drove a JUMP bike on a journey from Wayland Square’s Starbucks to the Rockefeller Library. The bike shattered my expectations, especially after the electric pedal-assist kicked in and made the hill up Angell Street seem like an airport runway.

A University internal task force communicated with the City about the new bike share program and suggested campus locations for bike hubs. As of Sept. 15, there were 400 JUMP Bikes in Providence.

Bike share program comes to Providence

As classes kicked off this semester, so did JUMP Electric Bikes — a new bike-share program that brings hundreds of red dockless bikes to Providence.

The new bike sharing initiative will consist of eletronic bikes that allow for greater speeds. Monthly membership to the program will cost $20 per month, but $20 per year for certain low-income households.
