Brown sports teams are bad. So bad. Almost no one attends the games. They are no fun to watch. And not in a funny “ha-ha” way, but in a “well, there goes another $17.7 million” kind of way.

Carleen Jeffers ’19 posted a 20 minute, 53 second six-kilometer run at the Penn State National Open last weekend.

Carleen Jeffers ’19 led women’s cross country to a seventh place team finish out of 28 squads last weekend at the Penn State National Open.

Gabrielle Moriconi ’21 led women’s volleyball to a comeback victory against Penn. Moriconi recorded double-digit kills for the sixth time this season.

An eerie silence hung over the eighth hole of the Kirkbrae Country Club golf course. There wasn’t much to talk about as Chuck Isgar ’20.5 studied the contours and tilts of the green before lining up a 30-foot putt, but his partner, Drew Powell ’21, did offer up one piece of advice: “Go do it.”

Last Thursday, the Bears hosted the University of Vermont in a matchup that ended in an overtime draw. Bruno will match up against UMass Lowell Tuesday before beginning Ivy League play on the road against Dartmouth Saturday.

Women’s soccer dominates Rams in 5-0 victory

The women’s soccer team has not lost to the University of Rhode Island since 2007, and it continued its winning streak Sunday afternoon in a 5-0 shutout victory over the in-state rival. The win was the Bears’ most lopsided victory against URI since 1994 and marked their second win in a week. 

Rebecca Rosen ’22 recorded a total of three goals when the women’s soccer team faced the College of the Holy Cross last weekend.

Rebecca Rosen ’22 is a rookie on the women’s soccer team, but she played like a true veteran against the College of the Holy Cross last weekend.

Despite the two losses, the Bears played with great effort, pushing William and Mary to overtime and battling Richmond to the final whistle. Bruno will return home to face the University of New Hampshire this Friday.

Field hockey drops two to William and Mary, Richmond

The field hockey team continued its early season campaign this weekend with a trip to Virginia, where Bruno lost two games including an overtime decision against the College of William and Mary.

Midfielder Rodrigo D’Andrea ’20 evaded the Colonials’ defense in overtime to secure the Bears’ second consecutive victory of their 2018 campaign. Bruno will travel to California to play San Diego State Friday.

Following a season-opening victory against Ocean State rival Bryant University, the men’s soccer team defeated George Washington University 2-1 in overtime Friday.

Carly Paul ’18.5 broke the University’s 18-year-old standing record for her performance in the long jump at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic.
