Mei Li Costa ’22 took home the national bars title at the 2019 USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate National Championships Sunday, earning a winning score of 9.8500 in the finals after tying Brown’s all-time bars record with a score of 9.900 in preliminaries.

Ten gymnasts from the University qualified for preliminary sessions at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships.

Led by a near-flawless routine on the uneven bars from Mei Li Costa ’22, the gymnastics team capped off the 2019 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships with six All-American honors and its first individual title since 2014.

Costa’s Yurchenko vault earned the first Ivy win for a Brown gymnast since Caroline Morant ’17 claimed three in 2017. Costa was awarded First Team All-Ivy Classic Honors on vault and Second Team on the uneven bars.

Sophia Petrillo ’22 has made an impressive mark on the Brown gymnastics program since arriving on campus at the beginning of the school year.

Last weekend, the gymnastics team posted a season high 193.900 to claim first place in a tri-meet against Southern Connecticut State University and Rhode Island College at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Bears took home the floor, bars and vault titles to power past their New England opponents.

Co-captain Claire Ryan ’18 capped off her collegiate gymnastics career with a fourth-place finish on the uneven bars. Ryan recorded a career-high 9.850 on the event during the preliminary session Friday.

Bears close out 2018 season at USAG Nationals

A season-best performance on balance beam and career-high scores from multiple gymnasts elevated the gymnastics team’s final competition of the season, as it finished fourth in the second preliminary session at the 2018 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships Friday.

Co-captains Maggie McAvoy ’18 and Claire Ryan ’18 hold the team’s ECAC championship third place trophy and look forward to USAG nationals.
