The men’s soccer team headed south to the nation’s capital this weekend searching for its first win of the season and found it against Howard University with a 1-0 victory Thursday.

Bruno felt the heat against the Friars in a final tournament match, entering the fifth and final round tied with two sets apiece. The Bears proved resilient and clinched the deciding match at 15-11, prevailing with a 3-2 victory and earning them the Friar Classic title. Women’s volleyball will next take the court at Bryant University on September 17.

The women’s volleyball team beat out Coppin State University, Fairleigh Dickinson University and Providence College to claim an uncontested victory in the Friar Classic at Providence College over the weekend.

After winning their final home game, the Bears will face off against Harvard in the opener of the Ivy League championship next weekend.

The women’s water polo team defeated No. 22 Marist College at home Saturday in their final game of the season.

Despite a hard fought game, the Brown Bears lost to Cornell in their last home game of the season. Bruno will face Bryant on Tuesday.

Coming off a win over Ocean State rival Providence College, the men’s lacrosse team looked to carry its momentum into a crucial Ivy League matchup against No. 10 Cornell Saturday.

The Bears lost narrowly to Stony Brook University on Saturday. Luke McCaleb ’20 scored an early goal for Bruno, but Stony Brook pulled away, going on a scoring run after the Bears got a defensive penalty. Despite a promising five goals from Darian Cook ’22 in the fourth quarter, the game ended with a score of 13-11 in favor of Stony Brook.

After opening its season with a 20-7 win at home against Quinnipiac University, the men’s lacrosse team (1-1) was back in action at Stevenson-Pincince Field Saturday against Stony Brook University (1-1).  Entering this weekend’s matchup, Bruno hoped to continue the same offensive successes against the Seawolves.

Christian LaFragola ’19 clinched a crucial 3-1 win in overtime against Brian Bonino of Columbia. The Bears’ decisive victories over the weekend coincided with the team’s Senior Day, when visiting alums showed up to support the team. Next week, the team will take on Harvard in Cambridge before returning home for their final match against Sacred Heart University.

The men’s wrestling team took out Columbia and Hofstra University Saturday in two critical victories on their Senior Day. The dual against Columbia came down to the wire, with the Bears needing a win from Tucker Ziegler ’19 (197 lbs) in the final bout.

When forward Sena Hanson ’20 scored eight minutes into the third period to tie the women’s hockey team’s match-up against Boston University, it seemed that Bruno, coming off a four-game stretch without a win, finally had all the momentum.

This past weekend, field hockey goalkeeper Katie Hammaker ’19 recorded 14 saves in a loss to Penn and 13 saves in a win over Villanova University.

Coming off a heartbreaking loss Saturday to the Cornell Big Red, the men’s soccer team hoped to rebound against a tough Hofstra University squad Tuesday night at Stevenson-Pincince field.

The University’s Sports Injury Lab studied upper extremity injuries in high school and college soccer players. Though upper extremity injuries are less common than lower extremities injures, they account for 20 percent of emergency visits from high school and college patients, the study found.
