Caldwell ’14 and Spooney ’14 star at Heps

The men’s and women’s indoor track teams both finished in fifth place at the Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Championships this past weekend in Ithaca, N.Y. Heidi Caldwell ’14 and the men’s 4×400-meter relay team both turned in winning performances, while John Spooney’s ’14 second-place time in the 60-meter dash set a new school record.

The cross country teams traveled to the New England Championships in Boston Saturday with squads composed of younger and less-experienced competitors. The decision allowed the teams to simultaneously rest their strongest runners while gauging the progress of developing athletes.

Despite competition from 44 teams in the gold division at last Friday’s Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University, the cross country teams were undeterred. The men finished seventh with 255 points, narrowly edging out Dartmouth. Earning 393 points, the women ran to a 12th place finish, besting the University of New Hampshire by 32 points.

Last Friday was a bittersweet day for cross country as the women’s squad captured third place at the Ivy League Cross Country Heptagonal Championships in Van Cortlandt Park, while the men finished last. Both the men and women of Princeton brought home the Ivy League title.
