U-FLi Center changes name to reflect goals

The First-Generation College and Low-Income Student Center has officially changed its name to the Undocumented, First-Generation and Low-Income Student Center.

The Fli Center provides community building and leadership training opportunities to first-generation, low-income and undocumented students.

FLi Center launches community-building program

Julio Reyes ’12, program director of the First-Generation College and Low-Income Student Center, and Renata Mauriz ’17, the center’s student success coordinator, collaborated this summer to launch the FLi Scholars Program.

Alan Pelaez Lopez, Rommy Torrico, Soultree and Felipe Baeza spoke about art’s role in immigration activism and the intersection of queerness and immigration status.

Queer, trans artists discuss undocumented experiences

“For me, (art) was a way to quiet the demons inside, whether it was rage or anger or feeling lost,” said Rommy Torrico, an undocumented, queer and trans visual artist, during an event hosted by the First-Generation College and Low-Income Student Center and the LGBTQ Center Thursday.
