Men’s and women’s tennis each split two Florida matches

The men’s and women’s tennis teams garnered mixed results in their Sunshine State swing over spring break, with each squad notching one win and one loss.

Hannah Camhi ’16, a Herald staff writer, returns a shot from the back corner of the court. Camhi won both her matches, against Providence and URI, in straight sets as part of an Ocean State sweep for the Bears this weekend.

The men’s tennis team split on the road in North Carolina this weekend, falling to No. 40 Elon University 4-3 but defeating Gardner-Webb University 6-1.

Justin To ’15 earned a point for the Bears with a singles victory against Penn this weekend. Coming back from an injury, he holds the top position in both the singles and doubles categories.

Daniel Hirschberg ’15, above, and Greg Garcia ’17 advanced into the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket before falling to a Harvard pair. Hirschberg was also one of two players to pick up a win in the singles draw.

William Spector ’15 picked up one of two singles victories against the University of Buffalo last Friday, after Brown swept Lehigh University. The Bears also notched a victory over Penn to close out the weekend.

Azargui ’14 leads m. tennis to 6-0

Last weekend, men’s tennis player Soufiane Azargui ’14 won all four of his matches — two at singles and two at doubles — to help the Bears remain undefeated 6-0 in the winter season. Azargui’s wins came at home against Binghamton, Bryant and Quinnipiac. For his dominating performances to help extend the Bears’ winning streak, The Herald has named Azargui Athlete of the Week.
