Youth addiction recovery center receives $50,000 grant

The court-ordered payment from an individual who pleaded guilty to growing marijuana will be used to support a new recovery center for teens struggling with addiction, according to a press release from the Attorney General Peter Kilmartin’s office

Gov. Gina Raimondo’s new budget proposal aims to increase availability of medical marijuana and reduce opiod use.

During Tuesday’s forum, officials and public policy experts urged caution, making their case as to why research and regulation must lead the movement.

Protesters gathered outside the State House to speak  out against Gov. Gina Raimondo’s proposed “tagging fee” on medical marijuana patient and caregiver growing practices Feb. 23. Holding signs that said “Compassion not taxation” and “Free the weed,” community members called the tax an economic obstacle for less wealthy patients.

Though there were many setbacks in the opening of Greenleaf Compassionate Care Center, the state’s second medical marijuana dispensary, it has seen “smooth sailing” since, said Seth Bock, founder and CEO. The state’s third dispensary is slated to open next week.
