Board of Elections proposes solution to last-minute voting

The Rhode Island Board of Elections is expecting an overwhelming number of emergency mail ballots — maybe more than it can handle — during the next general election.

Representative Charlene Lima, D-Dist. 14, is sponsoring bill H5330. Speakers at Wednesday’s Rhode Island House Judiciary Committee discussed the intentions and necessity of the proposed panhandling bill.

Anyone in Rhode Island experiencing a police, fire or medical emergency can now contact 911 not only through voice calls but also via text messages thanks to a new service launched Feb. 5 by the R.I. Department of Public Safety.
