Three gun safety bills endorsed by Gov. Gina Raimondo and Attorney General Peter Neronha were heard Tuesday at the House Judiciary Committee hearing.

Rachel Black ’16 testified in support of R.I. HB5196 using research from her undergraduate thesis. The bill aims to  protect those who have not paid their court fees from facing jail time for their unpaid debt.

As a recent Brown alum waited to enter the hearing room to testify, a woman exclaimed from the room’s threshold: “Are you the author? Oh my god! (Your thesis) has been (essential)  for getting this issue taken up again.”

State Rep. Edith Ajello listened to testimony regarding abortion legislation at a public hearing at the State House. She sponsored the Reproductive Health Care Act, which would codify Roe v. Wade in Rhode Island.
