‘Walk of No Shame’ celebrates sex positivity

RISD students marched through 40-degree weather at 11 a.m. Saturday carrying picket signs to protest victim-blaming and slut-shaming.

Techstyle Haus — a solar house designed by students from Brown, the Rhode Island School of Design and the University of Applied Sciences in Germany, is made from a flexible fiberglass material called Sheerfill. Construction of the house began in January 2014 in a parking lot in Cranston, R.I.

Fast Company magazine selected Techstyle Haus ­as one of nine finalists in the student category of its 2015 “Innovation by Design” competition.

Rosanne Somerson P’11, a renowned studio furniture designer, became the 17th president of the Rhode Island School of Design Wednesday.

Rosanne Somerson, who graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1976, has acted as interim president of RISD since December 2013. She founded the school’s  furniture design department in 1985.


RISD presidential search draws from international applicant pool

The international search for the Rhode Island School of Design’s 17th president has reached the preliminary interview process.

The seventh annual A Better World by Design conference proposed technology- and design-related solutions to real-world problems, such as revitalizing public spaces and the significance of American-made products.
