Bears get lone win in the Lone Star State

The women’s softball team opened up the 2012 season in El Paso, Texas at the University of Texas at El Paso Invitational this weekend, where they won one game out of five after facing the University of Texas at San Antonio, UTEP, Valparaiso University and Iowa State University.

The softball team (13-14, 2-6 Ivy League) won its first home game of the season Saturday against Princeton (7-25, 1-7), but then lost the second game of the day to the Tigers. In their doubleheader against Cornell (21-8, 7-1) Sunday, the Bears were outscored, 23-4, and mercy-ruled in both games.

How do you match perfection? After sending down 21 Arcadia batters in a row on March 14, Kristie Chin ’11 came close to throwing a perfect game again last Sunday. In Chin’s five scoreless innings of work against St. Peter’s, she gave up no hits and allowed only one walk.
