Bears fall to St. Lawrence, tie No. 3 Clarkson in overtime tilt

Following a five-game home stand during winter break, the men’s hockey team saw mixed results on the road this weekend, falling to St. Lawrence 3-2 Friday and drawing even with No. 3 Clarkson 2-2 in an overtime tilt Saturday.

Emma Hansen ‘21 took to the beam after winning the bars title for the second time in three meets. The Bears will next compete at home against Bridgeport Feb. 4.

The women’s squash team earned its second straight win last Thursday with a 9-0 victory over Dickinson College. The team, ranked 11th in the nation, was led by Hannah Seckendorf ’20. Playing in the number one slot, Seckendorf fought back from a two-game deficit in a best-of-five sets match to claim victory.

Childhood dreams came true for Brown track and field alum Evan Weinstock ’14 when he was selected to represent the United States in bobsled and skeleton at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Though the Bears lost to the Yale Bulldogs the week before, Travis Fuller ‘19 assured that the preparation and hard work paid off this weekend.

Gavin Nieto ’20 stopped 47 shots in his first career shutout at Princeton Saturday. Nieto exceeded the 40-save mark for the second time this season following a 44-save effort in the season opener at Yale Oct. 27. The Bears host Holy Cross in a non-conference matchup at Meehan Auditorium Tuesday.

Men’s hockey blanks Princeton 3-0 in split weekend on the road

Following a victory over St. Lawrence last week, the men’s hockey team earned its first shutout of the season with a 3-0 win against Ivy rival Princeton.

Guard Brandon Anderson ’20 executes a layup. Anderson led the Bears with 21 points in Saturday’s loss to St. Francis Brooklyn, recording seven in the first half. Bruno made 86 percent of its free throws in the 77-74 defeat.

The men’s basketball team was unable to wipe away a large first-half deficit, falling 77-74 in a nail-biter.

Quarterback Thomas Linta '18 throws a pass as the Bears were unable to overcome the Lions on the road, despite keeping the scores close for the first three quarters. Ultimately the Lions managed to outplay Bruno’s powerful defense.
