Swimming and diving fall to Columbia, keep eyes on championships

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams fell to Columbia this week, extending their winless Ivy streaks dating back to early December.

Both the men’s and women’s teams proved to be no match for Harvard or Penn despite rigorous training exercises over winter break, with Bruno falling in all four meets against its Ivy foes. Both teams will face Columbia next weekend and hope to notch their second Ivy wins of the season.

Though men’s and women’s swimming and diving enjoyed a productive training trip, they both recorded losses this weekend, falling to Penn and Harvard.

Tommy Glenn ’14 races toward the finish. Glenn won and set a pool record in the 100 and 200 fly races this weekend, and his time in the 200 fly set an Ivy Championships record, immediately qualifying him for the NCAA finals. Despite Glenn’s strong performance, Bruno finished in seventh.

Briana Borgolini ’14 swims to a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke Saturday. Her efforts helped clinch sixth place for Brown.

Cory Mayfield ’16 swims freestyle. Mayfield entered three events — the 500 free, 1000 free and 200 free relay — and finished third, fifth and sixth. Brown men’s swimmers won six of their 14 events.

When the swimming and diving teams took to the pool against Yale in their final dual meet of the season Saturday, the Bulldogs proved best in show.

Tommy Glenn ’14 set a pool record in the 100-yard butterfly on his way to scoring one-fifth of Bruno’s total points against Cornell this weekend. He also won the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle events.
