In the final act of the 2011-12 season, wrestlers Dave Foxen ’12 and Ophir Bernstein ’15 competed in the NCAA Tournament Thursday in St. Louis. Both wrestlers went 0-2 at the tournament and were eliminated, but despite the losses, Head Coach Dave Amato said he was pleased with the effort shown by both wrestlers.

Wrestlers pin down Crimson, fall to Lehigh

The men’s wrestling team earned three big home wins this past weekend, putting the squad in contention for second place in the Ivy League standings. Bruno defeated Boston University 19-16 and Roger Williams 41-9 Saturday and took down Ivy rival Harvard 22-17 Sunday before falling to Lehigh 35-3. The victories give the Bears momentum heading into the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships in early March.

Cortlandt Choate’s ’13 season was all but over. He was coming off an injury that kept him sidelined for five weeks, he had dropped his first match in the NCAA-qualifying Eastern Championships and he was unseeded in the qualifier. The odds against him were huge, but the 133-pounder fought back and won his way into the consolation match, punching his ticket to Nationals in Omaha, Neb., last weekend.

The wrestling team hosted its first home dual meet on Saturday against Army. Despite the home advantage, the Bears did not come out on top in close matches and lost the dual, 27-6.
