It's been a pretty light schedule for Brown sports this week. Only the soccer and field hockey teams have their seasons underway, (all three teams all ready have a 'W' under their belts) and Bears fans all over campus are still waiting for the rest of their favorite fall sports to start playing. That being said, here are some early "by the numbers" observations we've already made about this young fall sports season.
1 - wins the field hockey team already has this season, equaling their total from last year. It's also the number of freshmen on the men's golf team this season.
9 - volleyball players from California.
10 - letters in sisters Bianca '11 and Carissa '12 Aboubakare's last name.
11- Brown tennis players, both men and women, who were selected as ITA Scholar Athletes.
14 - men's basketball players that went to Europe this summer, including Damon Huffman '08, who plays for Okapi Aalstar in Belgium.
18 - NSCAA ranking of the men's soccer team - just edging out our boys in the pool.
19 - NCAA ranking of the men's water polo team.
20- date in September when the football team will begin its season by taking on visiting Stony Brook.
23 - days between the opening day of the college football season and when Brown's football team will play its first game.
28 - freshmen cross-country runners on the men's and women's squads this season.
