Letter: Bringing back ROTC would improve U. rankings

To the Editor:

Regarding the State of Brown lecture ("Simmons: Dorms, grad school, internationalization on agenda," March 19): President Simmons is frustrated over Brown's place in national rankings and feels the rankings do not give Brown credit for the excellence of its standards and programs. Maybe bringing back ROTC (the Reserve Officers' Training Corps) to Brown would help. Or is helping to provide leaders for the armed forces of the United States beneath the excellence of standards and programs of the University?
