Letter: Coal divestment is the right choice

To the Editor:

This is about “Fossil Free Brown: Imagining Brown fossil-free,” the opinions column in Thursday’s Herald. The fight against global climate change is so important that it far outweighs all other considerations. Thus it should be recognized that the Corporation members are generously giving their time and money to Brown, but global climate change will quickly destroy all that they have given. If it is argued that divestment will cost money that is badly needed, then one could point out that similar thinking justified remaining in the slave trade in earlier days — but slavery was eventually abolished, whereas climate change becomes irreversible. So let us accept reality and do what has to be done.
