M. hockey sweeps New York teams for first time in 17 years

The men's hockey team (3-2-1, 2-1-1 ECAC) went undefeated last weekend with a 5-2 win at Colgate (2-7-1, 0-5-1) and a 3-2 win against Cornell (2-6, 2-4).

Brown 5, Colgate 2

Forward Jack Maclellan '12 led the Bears offensively against the Raiders with a goal and two assists. Bruno led 2-1 going into the third period and then padded its lead with three goals in the third. Goalie Mike Clemente '12 was solid in net, making 28 saves.

Brown 3, Cornell 2

Brown led the Big Red in the first period with defenseman Matt Wahl's '14 first career goal. Forward and captain Harry Zolnierczyk '11 added to the lead in the second period with his third goal of the season. Cornell answered with a goal of its own five minutes later, but the Bears extended their lead, 3-1, halfway through the third period. With less than a minute remaining, Cornell scored, but it was too little, too late, and Bruno was able to hold on to the win.

The weekend sweep of Colgate and Cornell is Brown's first since 1993, according to Brown Sports Information, when Coach Brandon Whittet '94 was a junior. The Bears will stay on the road to face No. 7 New Hampshire (6-2-3) on Tuesday, followed by a road game against No. 2 Boston University (8-1-4) on Saturday.
