Bears and Bulldogs set to square off this weekend

After a deflating loss at the University of Pennsylvania, the football team (4-3, 3-1 Ivy League) returns home for a crucial matchup against the Yale Bulldogs (5-2, 3-1 Ivy) on Saturday. The loss to the Quakers left Brown in a three-way tie for second place with Yale and Harvard. With only three games remaining, the Bears need to win out to have any chance of winning the league championship.

Desperately needing a win to keep pace with Dartmouth in the Ivy League standings, the baseball team hosted the Big Green Tuesday and Wednesday. The games were originally scheduled for Sunday but had to be postponed due to rain. Despite jumping out to an early 1-0 lead Tuesday, the Bears lost the game, 8-4.

Chris Nowinski, once known as the only Harvard graduate in professional wrestling, spoke as part of a panel in front of an almost full Salomon 101 Monday night. Nowinski spoke to both the personal effects and scientific research concerning concussions at Monday’s event, which was part of a colloquium on the danger of concussions in sports.

After a difficult showing at the New England Championship, the men’s golf team sought to rebound at the Yale Invitational this weekend. But the Bears’ plans were derailed by strong winds which Head Coach Michael Hughes said hit an inexperienced Brown team especially hard.

The men’s golf team finished ninth out of 12 teams in the New England Division I Championship at Triggs Memorial Golf Club in Providence over the weekend. Connecticut won the event easily with a final team score of 586. Despite a stronger showing on Sunday, the Bears finished the event with a disappointing score of 624.

Bears sweep Princeton, Cornell

It was the kind of scenario that baseball players act out in backyards from the time they were little leaguers. Josh Feit ’11 stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth with two runners on and two outs. With the score tied, 12-12, Feit fell behind in the count. But he battled back and lined a single to right, giving Brown the series sweep over Princeton.
