The men’s and women’s golf teams are moving into the end of their spring schedules after the women’s team came in second over the weekend in its home tournament and the men’s team placed fifth, with a 623, at the 36-hole Yale Spring Invitational.

In its first outing of the spring season, the men’s golf team narrowly missed edging out the University of Arizona. Fighting windy conditions and rustiness, the team fell two strokes short, dropping the contest, 313-311.


Maclellan ’12 signs with Predators

In the span of one week, men’s ice hockey captain Jack Maclellan ’12 went from losing a disappointing first-round series in the ECAC playoffs – his final games in a Brown uniform – to realizing his dream of joining hockey’s premier professional league. Saturday night, Maclellan finalized a one-year deal with the National Hockey League’s Nashville Predators, a team he is familiar with after attending its Summer Development Camp last summer. Maclellan has joined the team and will practice with them for the remainder of the season.

The men’s ice hockey team — now mired in a six-game losing streak — sustained tough road losses to No. 12 Cornell and Colgate this weekend. The team has also fallen into last place in the Eastern College Athletic Conference after failing to compile a point since its win over then-No. 12 Union Jan. 21.

  In a week of extended practices and a return to the fundamentals, men’s ice hockey head coach Brendan Whittet ’94 prepared the team for a trying end of the season after it dropped four consecutive games to fall to the basement of the ECAC standings.

In a weekend where the men’s hockey team could have made a jump into third place in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference  standings, the team instead slipped to ninth place after coming away empty-handed in its pair of away games.

    The men’s hockey team carried its momentum into the core of its schedule, coming off an inspiring victory against Yale Dec. 3, 6-4. While the rest of Brown was on vacation, Bruno (8-8-3, 5-5-2 ECAC) compiled a 4-2-2 record and currently sits sixth in the ECAC standings with 12 points.

The men’s hockey team lived and died by the power play last weekend. Special teams play was a determining factor in the outcome of games at No. 13 Union (5-3-3, 2-2 ECAC ) Friday and RPI (2-9-0, 1-3) Saturday  — a 2-1 upset of the Dutchmen and a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Engineers.

The No. 17 men’s water polo team has had two exhilarating weekends, beginning its postseason play with positive results. The team won the Ivy League Championships Oct. 29 and 30 at Harvard and finished second in an agonizing defeat to No. 20 St. Francis College in the finals of the Northern Division Championships Nov. 5 and 6 at MIT.
