In July 2020, Brown announced its three-term model for the 2020-2021 academic year. Sophomores, juniors and seniors were given the opportunity to be on campus for the fall 2020 semester, while first years were allowed to be on campus during the spring and summer 2021 terms.

R.I. legislators propose tax on sugary beverages

Rhode Island legislators proposed a pair of bills that would impose a 1.5-cent-per-ounce tax on sugary beverages such as non-diet soda, sports drinks and fruit drinks with added sugars.

The University’s history of hosting vaccination clinics made it a viable location to administer COVID-19 vaccines as Rhode Island seeks to widen vaccine availability throughout the state.

The University hosted its first on-campus COVID-19 vaccination clinic Monday for students, faculty and staff, offering participants their first dose of the Moderna vaccine.

Students are able to upload pictures to the Tagg app to showcase their interests and connect with others.

Brown students create social networking platform Tagg

As a player on the Brown football team, Victor Loolo ’20 found himself struggling to branch out beyond the student-athlete community. Based on his experience, he began dreaming of a social networking platform that could connect students to those with whom they may not otherwise cross paths.

The Grad Center Bar drew crowds of students prior to the onset of COVID-19 restrictions, with students celebrating 21st birthdays, alumni weekend, graduate student recruitment events or even just regular Friday nights.

On a typical Saturday night early last year, students might have been packed into the Graduate Center Bar. They would order from the bar’s extensive beer menu (Tecate, Lord Hobo, Fiddlehead and many, many more) then cart pitchers, popcorn and cocktails back through crowded tables, bumping elbows along the way.

At the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic back in March, recent Brown graduates Chuck Isgar ’20.5 and Megan Kasselberg ’20 started Intern from Home, an online platform that connects students seeking internships with companies in need.
