Field hockey extends undefeated streak with win against Bryant

The field hockey team (3-1) defeated Bryant University (0-5) in a commanding 5-1 victory Friday afternoon at Goldberger Family Field. The Bears’ third straight win gave them their best start to a season since their 3-0 start in 2014.

Field hockey comes back in the second half to beat Merrimack College, taking their second consecutive win to start the season.

The field hockey team (2-0-0) defeated the Merrimack College Warriors (0-0-4) by a score of 2-1 to cap off their opening weekend homestand. The Bears dominated offensively the entire game, outshooting the Warriors 23-2 and putting 18 of those shots on goal, but Merrimack’s stout defensive approach kept the game close.

Sunday's game was the first ever played on the newly constructed Stevenson-Pincince Field in the Center for Lacrosse and Soccer.


Women’s soccer earns statement win in first home match since Nov. 2019

Following a season-opening loss at Hofstra University, the women’s soccer team (1-1) rebounded with a 4-0 win over College of the Holy Cross (0-4) at home Sunday. The match was Brown’s first home game since Nov. 16, 2019.

Former Brown baseball pitching coach Bill Murphy was recently hired to the coaching staff of Major League Baseball’s Houston Astros. Murphy joined the Brown baseball staff as an assistant coach and pitching coach in September 2014.

Track and field throws coach Craig Kinsely ’11 joined the track and field program in December 2016. Before he joined the staff, Kinsely was the 2010 NCAA National Champion in javelin at Brown and earned a spot on Team USA in 2012, becoming the top American finisher at the London Olympics.

Stephen Silas ’96 became the first Brown alum to become an NBA head coach after being hired by the Houston Rockets Oct. 30. Silas played in 84 career games for the Bears from 1992 to 1996, averaging nearly eight points per game as a senior and totalling 464 career points.

The Ivy League Council of Presidents waived Ivy rules for the upcoming academic year to allow fourth-year seniors future eligibility.
