Wrestling wins one, loses two on road

The wrestling team (3-9) battled through three matches on Saturday as it traveled to Penn (10-5) to face the host team and Drexel and then journeyed to Princeton. The Bears lost the first two meets, posting only five individual wins. The team overcame the two losses and finished off the day with a solid win at Princeton.

The men’s basketball team (6-12, 0-4 Ivy) continued the middle portion of a five-game road stretch by taking on Cornell (14-6, 4-0 Ivy) and Columbia (7-11, 2-2 Ivy) this past weekend. But Brown could not overcome the defending champion Big Red and the physical play of the Lions, losing both games.

The wrestling team fell short against two strong programs over the weekend. The Bears headed to No. 8 Lehigh on Saturday, where they could muster up only two wins, falling 29-7. On the following day, they fought hard against Army from the beginning, opening the match with three consecutive wins to take a 13-0 lead before losing a tightly-contested match, 21-16.

The men’s basketball team (6-9, 0-1 Ivy) began winter break with an 89-73 win over Quinnipiac on Dec. 29 on its hottest shooting performance of the season, which included astounding 82 percent (14-of-17) shooting from behind the three-point line, a school single-game record.

The men’s soccer team (9-7-1 overall, 3-4 in Ivies) finished its season on national television Friday night at Dartmouth (5-1-1), falling 2-0. The Bears finished fifth place in the Ivy League after going undefeated and winning their conference last year. David Walls ’11 said this was one of the worst seasons for the men’s soccer program in quite some time.

Six players on the men’s soccer team played their last game at Stevenson Field on Saturday night. Unfortunately, the emotional evening ended in disappointment, as Yale (7-7-2, 3-3 Ivy) handed Brown (9-6-1, 3-3 Ivy) a 2-0 defeat. “The seniors are the ones who are always the most disappointed, losing their last home game,” said Head Coach Mike Noonan.

The men’s soccer team headed into the matchup with Penn on Saturday night with a week of rest, but playing a man down and falling into a 2-0 hole going into the half, the Bears (9-5-1, 3-2 Ivy) could not pull off the win, falling by a score of 4-0 to the Quakers (10-2-3, 4-1).
