Providence College came into the men’s lacrosse game against Brown with no wins on the season. PC had nothing to lose. The Bears, (5-5, 2-2 Ivy) were looking to gain momentum going into key Ivy League contests. In a game that included a broken stick, an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and a number of shots off the crossbar, Bruno prevailed with a 14-7 win to claim the first-ever Ocean State Cup.

But the Bears disproved Pressler’s logic Tuesday night and battled to a 9-7 win over their intra-state rival.

Many things rode on Saturday’s men’s lacrosse game between 11th-ranked Harvard and 16th-ranked Brown. There was a chance to start the Ivy season with a win. A chance to move up in the national rankings. And of course, a chance to taste sweet victory over an archrival. In what has become one of the top lacrosse rivalries in the nation, Bruno earned bragging rights with a 13–11 victory over the Crimson at Harvard Stadium.
