M. water polo gaining momentum, chemistry

In the past week the men’s water polo team beat the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 6-5, and Fordham, 11-9, then fell to St. Francis by a score of 12-5. Despite the loss, the team is improving, and its “chemistry” is strengthening with each game, said Head Coach Felix Mercado.

Men’s soccer ends weekend with two ties

The No. 25 men’s soccer team (4-0-3) took on Santa Clara (2-4-1) and San Francisco (3-3-1) this past weekend, coming away with two 1-1 double-overtime ties. The Bears remain undefeated this season, but the trip to California was not completely satisfying, according to goalie Paul Grandstrand ’11.

Fourth-quarter rally batted away by Crimson

A week ago, Drew Plichta ’10 missed an extra point and a last second, 40-yard field goal in the football team’s loss to Stony Brook. After the tough loss, Head Coach Phil Estes said he would give the kicker a chance to “come back.” But with 4.1 seconds left on the clock Friday night at Harvard Stadium and the Bears down 24-21, Estes didn’t give Plichta a chance to send the game into overtime against the host Crimson. Instead of trying a 42-yarder that could have tied the game, Estes chose to go for the end zone.

Field hockey drops to 0-2 in Ivy League play

The field hockey team split a pair of home games last week, beating Sacred Heart, 3-2, on Wednesday before falling to Dartmouth, 8-3, on Saturday on Warner Roof. Bruno’s 3-4 record is its best start since 2006, but the team has started 0-2 in Ivy League play for the third straight year.

For rival Harvard, Brown game is ‘just another one’

Brown-Harvard is a rivalry game. At least, it is for Brown. The defending Ivy football co-champions, will meet each other at 7 p.m. tonight under the lights of Harvard Stadium.

Volleyball finishes 2-1 at Brown Invitational

Brown finished off this weekend’s Brown Invitational, 2-1, after a two-match sweep of Holy Cross and a five-set loss to Stony Brook. The Bears advanced to 3-6 on the season.

The men’s soccer team (4-0-1) traveled 30 miles south to take on URI (2-4-0) Saturday night, pulling away early and cruising to a 5-0 win. The offense was firing on all cylinders with five goals from four different players, and the defense continued its dominance, not allowing a single goal in the past four games of play.

The women’s soccer team earned its first victory of the season on a road trip to Maryland, shutting out Towson University, 2-0, on Sunday after falling to the No. 18 Maryland Terrapins, 3-1, on Friday.

Field hockey drops Ivy opener lacking rhythm

The field hockey team lost its Ivy League opener to Columbia, 2-0, on Saturday in New York. Catherine Campbell scored twice on penalty corners, and the Lions (2-2, 1-0 Ivy) outshot the Bears by a 22-3 margin to drop Bruno to 2-3 on the season.
