Rhode Island Virtual Reality hosted its monthly meet-up last Thursday at AS220 for virtual reality enthusiasts to hear from speakers in the business.

Hype Man showcases the transcendent power of hip hop and explores various perspectives on social injustice. It will run until Nov. 18.

The Wilbury Theatre Group makes two claims in its latest play “Hype Man”: Hip hop — invigorating, stark testimonial — transcends borders. Its unifying power is coupled with centrifugal forces of race, gender and socioeconomic background.

AS220 gathered improvisers last weekend at the Providence Improv Festival, which began in 2004. The festival has grown to feature both local and internationally-based comedy groups.

This past weekend, improvisers from Montreal, Providence and other cities came together at AS220 for three laugh-packed days of performances, workshops and celebratory festivities at the Providence Improv Festival.

The archives were prepared over a two-year period by Janaya Kizzie. Federal grants helped to pay for the project.

This summer, the Providence Public Library opened the archives of AS220, a Providence-based community arts non-profit, to the public. This release concludes a two-year effort by the library and AS220 to house and preserve the organization’s archives.

AS220, Providence Community Radio and Brown Student and Community Radio acquired the local, Low Power radio station WBRU-FM 101.1 FM last month, after a process of several years. This new development in community radio comes in the wake of the sale of WBRU’s frequency 95.5 last year for $5.63 million.
