After a poor 2018 campaign that saw the football team go winless in the Ivy League, the Bears brought in new head coach James Perry ’00 as well as transfer quarterback EJ Perry GS and immediately showed signs of improvement.

The University's athletics department plans to educate student-athletes and provide resources on the new NIL policy.

The Ivy League will now allow student-athletes to profit off their name, image and likeness, or NIL, the League announced in a July 1 statement. The move comes in the wake of the NCAA’s June 30 adoption of an interim policy allowing student-athletes to profit off their NIL. 

As of January 29, 2021, Jack Hayes has decided to step down as director of Brown Athletics. Colin Sullivan, deputy director of athletics, has taken the reins as the interim athletic director.

It had been a “trying year,” a student-athlete explained to The Herald. That spring, a committee proposed cutting varsity sports teams to improve the athletics program’s competitiveness.

Jack Hayes joined the University in 2012, and will step down to join Bruin Sports Capital.

Director of Athletics Jack Hayes will leave his position at the University, effective Feb. 5, to become a senior adviser to Bruin Sports Capital and “pursue new opportunities,” according to a Friday press release.

Humm said he is still unsure what he will do after retirement, but that he hopes to continue playing golf and do volunteer work.

The University will transition 11 varsity teams — men and women’s fencing, men and women’s golf, women’s skiing, men and women’s squash, women’s equestrian and men’s track, field and cross country — to club status, effective immediately, according to a community-wide email sent today from President Christina Paxson.

Although the Bears registered nine shots on target, ten corner kicks and nine saves by Max Gross ’21, the Aztecs came away the 2-0 victors.
