While today’s Brown Athletics program displays diversity among its coaches and athletes, this has not always been the case. Throughout the history of Brown Athletics, trailblazing Black athletes and coaches have battled racism and adversity to earn athletic achievements while helping to build a more equitable program.

Grant Achilles, baseball’s 17th head coach since 1900, was hired as an assistant coach in 2012 and promoted to head coach midway through the 2014 season. Under his direction, Brown has earned 13 All-Ivy selection titles with multiple First Team honorees.

Bruno dropped two games and won one game in its series against Dartmouth this weekend. The Bears next face Ivy League leader Columbia in a road series.

Even if you love playing baseball, it can’t be easy to play at Brown. In less than three months, the team plays a 40-game season. The Bears fly around the country in February, from Kentucky to South Carolina to Florida looking for warm places to play.

The men’s baseball team swung into their regular season schedule with away series against Florida A&M and the University of California at Berkeley. Will Tomlinson ’20 silenced the Rattlers, pitching five scoreless innings to close the series with a 7-0 shutout win. Despite close contests in California, Bruno fell to the Golden Bears’ powerful offense four games to none.

The baseball team opened its season with a series victory over Florida A&M University and a series loss to the University of California at Berkeley over the past two weeks. The Bears claimed a trio of wins against the Rattlers (6-8) but fell to the Golden Bears (5-2) four games to none.
