Brown sells 90 percent of fossil fuel investments

The University is in the process of selling all its direct investments in fossil fuels, President Christina Paxson P’19 wrote in a March 4 Today@Brown announcement. The letter also informed the community of the University’s new role as a founding partner of the Providence Resiliency Partnership.

President Paxson P’19 stated that, even with no current risks, the University has further prepared measures to deal with the coronavirus.

At Tuesday’s monthly faculty meeting, President Christina Paxson P’19 urged faculty not to panic because of the spread of the COVID-19 virus in Rhode Island and said that the University is “going to be prepared” if the virus reaches campus.

The university recently announced plans  to aim for net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, with a 75 percent reduction below current levels by 2025. Brown’s net-zero goals are a great improvement – but by no means exceptional, given the scope of the ecological crisis facing our planet.
