Bears lose out to Ivy competition

The men’s golf team fell flat last weekend at the Princeton Invitational hosted at the par-71 Springfield Golf Club. The team shot a 54-hole 905, putting them in 11th place in a field of 14, which was led by Yale’s 858. It was a step backwards for the Bears after an impressive showing in their previous outing at the Yale Invitational, where Bruno finished only five strokes back of the Elis.

The track and field teams had a busy weekend as they split forces to compete at three different meets across the country. Traveling the farthest were nine distance runners who competed Friday evening at the Stanford Invite in Palo Alto, Calif. Dan Lowry ’12, Olivia Mickle ’13 and Heidi Caldwell ’14 set school records in their respective events as they competed against some of the top collegiate distance runners in the country.

The men’s and women’s golf teams are moving into the end of their spring schedules after the women’s team came in second over the weekend in its home tournament and the men’s team placed fifth, with a 623, at the 36-hole Yale Spring Invitational.

In its first outing of the spring season, the men’s golf team narrowly missed edging out the University of Arizona. Fighting windy conditions and rustiness, the team fell two strokes short, dropping the contest, 313-311.

The women’s golf team ended its season with a victory at the eight-team Lehigh Invitational held Oct. 22 and 23 at the Saucon Valley Country Club’s Grace Course. The team registered a 607, finishing the weekend with a team score of 298 Sunday, the team’s lowest round of the fall season.

Hsieh ’15 birdies to the top

Golfer Stephanie Hsieh ’15 won first place overall and led the women’s golf team to a second-place finish last week at the Spider Invitational, held at the University of Richmond. Hsieh earned medalist honors after birdieing her first shot of a playoff round to secure the lowest score of the tournament, a one-under-par 215. For leading the team as a first-year, The Herald has named Hsieh Athlete of the Week.
