At its monthly general body meeting Wednesday, the Graduate Student Council elected its new executive board of leadership for 2021. In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the election took place over Zoom through the use of the webinar polling function.

The Graduate Student Council has petitioned for an extra year of funding to extend graduate programs, citing instability caused by the current COVID-19 pandemic. GSC sent the petition to Provost Richard Locke P’18 and Dean of the Graduate School Andrew Campbell on April 1.

Counseling and Psychological Services director discussed recent developments, including adding two student representatives to the student consultation board to address mental health needs.

The Graduate Student Council and Counseling and Psychological Services are collaborating on new programming to address graduate student mental health needs.

The Graduate Student Council met for the first time this semester to elect a new vice president of advocacy. They also discussed improving access to mental health support for graduate students, and voted to approve several budget changes.

Entering the new semester, the Graduate Student Council elected a new vice president of advocacy and discussed programming to improve access to mental health support for graduate students. At its first monthly meeting of the year, the GSC elected Malcolm Thompson GS as vice president of advocacy after he ran unopposed.

Wednesday’s meeting took place in the newly renovated Graduate Student Lounge, located underneath Grad Center. The lounge has been outfitted with new flooring, cabinets, countertops and appliances.

Sitting in the newly renovated Graduate Student Lounge, the Graduate Student Council elected a new chair of nominations, approved two revisions to its bylaws and shared updates on Executive Board initiatives in its final meeting of the semester.

Grad Student Council to bring speakers to campus

The Graduate Student Council announced at its meeting Wednesday evening that they invited two speakers to campus to give talks later this month. Marie Solange Lopes, a teaching fellow  at Stonehill College and founder of blog “The Corporate Sister,” will speak to grad students about personal finance Oct. 17.

At its first meeting of the semester, the Graduate Student Council outlined its priorities and budget for the semester. Adam Spierer GS also shared that graduate and medical students will be able to access group fitness classes for free at the Nelson Fitness Center.
