Sara Carver-Milne is in her twentieth season of coaching Brown gymnastics. Under her direction, the Bears have produced 15 NCAA Regional Qualifiers, eight ECAC Event and All-Around Championship titles, ten USAG National Qualifiers and a USAG National Event Championship.

Led by a near-flawless routine on the uneven bars from Mei Li Costa ’22, the gymnastics team capped off the 2019 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships with six All-American honors and its first individual title since 2014.

“Layout first. Pop off the table.” Those are the words gymnast Mei Li Costa ’22 says to herself before she sprints down the strip of carpet that leads to a springboard and a vault table, a piece of equipment that resembles a giant tongue.

For the past month, the gymnastics team has narrowly missed topping the 193.325 team score it set in early February, but Brown finally beat its season best with a 193.525 during a quad meet hosted by the University of New Hampshire Sunday.

Coming off an unexpected fourth-place finish at the Ivy Classics last weekend, the gymnastics team bounced back with a second-place finish in its final home meet of the season Sunday.

While uncharacteristic mistakes on the uneven bars and balance beam hindered the gymnastics team’s run for the Ivy Classic title, the Bears still recorded their second highest score of the season with a 192.975 at the Pizzitola Sports Center Sunday.

Season-best scores on vault and floor and personal-best performances by multiple gymnasts lifted the gymnastics team to new heights as it tallied a 193.325, its highest mark of the season, while on the road at the University of Maryland.

After traveling to competitions around New England for the past three weekends, the gymnastics team returned to the Pizzitola for its 2018 home opener.
